Psychiatry | Depressive Rumination: Nature, Theory and Treatment Publisher: John Wiley & Sons Author: Costas Papageorgiou (Editor), Adrian Wells (Editor) ISBN: 0-471-48693-0 ,296 pages , October 2003 size: approx 2.5MB Review "A book of unique chapters that should be found in each clinician's office and each psychology student's backpack." (Journal of Psychosomatic Research 58:(2005) 309, 20th July 2005) "This book provides an authoritative, up-to-date account of current theoretical thinking and research about depressive rumination and its treatment...essential reading for researchers investigating depressive rumination..." (British Journal of Clinical Psychology, 20th July 2005) Book Description Rumination (recyclic negative thinking), is now recognised as important in the development, maintenance and relapse of recurrence of depression. For instance, rumination has been found to elevate, perpetuate and exacerbate depressed mood, predict future episodes of depression, and delay recovery during cognitive therapy. Cognitive therapy is one of the most effective treatments for depression. However, depressive relapse and recurrence following cognitive therapy continue to be a significant problem. An understanding of the psychological processes which contribute to relapse and recurrence may guide the development of more effective interventions. This is a major contribution to the study and treatment of depression which reviews a large body of research on rumination and cognitive processes, in depression and related disorders, with a focus on the implications of this knowledge for treatment and clinical management of these disorders. First book on rumination in depressive and emotional disorders Contributors are the leaders in the field First editor is a rising researcher and clinician with specialist interest in depression, and second editor is world renowned for his work on cognitive therapy of emotional disorders http://rapidshare.de/files/2427490/Depressive.Rumination.Nature.Theory.And.Treatment.rar.html password: Zer00forebooksclub

 | Encyclopedia of Psychotherapy, Two-Volume Set (Volume 1-2) Editors: Michel Hersen and William Sledge Academic Press 2002 ISBN: 0123430127 Psychotherapy is the dialogue between patient and therapist in the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral, crisis, and mental disorders. Psychoanalysis as formulated by Sigmund Freud is the first modern form of psychotherapy and this approach has given rise to several score of psychodynamic therapies. In more recent times behavioral, cognitive, existential, humanistic, and short-term therapies have been put into practice, each with a particular focus and each giving rise to variations in structure and content of treatment as well as therapeutic outcomes. These therapy approaches relate the patient/therapist dialogue to different aspects of the therapeutic process. For instance, behavior therapies focus on the patient's conduct and cognitive therapies treat the client's thought processes. The Encyclopedia covers the major psychotherapies currently in practice as well as the classical approaches that laid the foundation for the various contemporary treatment approaches. In addition, the Encyclopedia identifies the scientific studies conducted on the efficacy of the therapies and review the theoretical basis of each therapy. http://rapidshare.de/files/3019989/JABCDCJABG.rar.html pass: ebooksclub or http://rapidshare.de/files/17690588/psycho.rar Password= global

 | Pain - Psychological Perspectives Edited by T. Hadjistavropoulos and K.D. Craig. Hillsdale, NJ, Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc. 2003. 368 pages, hardcover. ISBN: 0805842993. $79.95. The contributors to this edited volume include a number of international experts in the topics of their chapters. The twelve chapters cover a variety of topics relevant to psychological aspects of pain, including the gate control theory, biopsychosocial approaches, social influences, pain over the lifespan, ethnocultural issues, assessment, and intervention. All of the chapters are good; I will comment on a few I found of particular interest. The first chapter, The Gate Control Theory: Reaching for the Brain, beautifully written by Ronald Melzack and Joel Katz, should be required reading for anyone conducting pain research or assessing or treating patients with pain. It provides a lucid and concise account of the history of theories of pain and important recent advances in scientific understanding of the role of the brain in the experience of pain. The chapter on biopsychosocial approaches to pain, written by Gordon Asmundson and Kristi Wright, is a comprehensive overview of various conceptual models of pain that involve psychosocial components, including the operant, biopsychosocial, biobehavioral, and fear-avoidance models. Following a description of each of these models is a brief review of empirical support for the model. This chapter concludes with the authors' proposal for an integrated diathesis-stress model of pain. The final two chapters in Pain: Psychological Perspectives are unique. Craig and Hadjistavropoulos provide a thoughtful consideration of current controversies relevant to pain psychology and Hadjistavropoulos discusses ethical issues relevant to psychologists in the assessment, treatment, and study of patients with pain. This volume is an excellent starting point for anyone, psychologist or non-psychologist, interested in learning more about pain. It is a useful resource for clinicians and researchers already in the field as a single source of comprehensive information on a variety of topics relevant to psychological aspects of pain. | The Behavioral Genetics of Psychopathology: A Clinical Guide New discoveries about the genetic underpinnings of many kinds of human experience are now constantly being made. This book explores the impact of these discoveries on the ways in which the common mental disorders are best conceptualized and treated. Most people think of research in genetics as the search for genes. This is only one focus of effort, and even with the reliable identification of susceptibility genes, the clinical applications of their discovery, such as gene therapies and new drug development, are a long way off. For the present, the impact of genetic research on our understanding of mental illness is tied to our ability to estimate the effect of all genes by means of family, twin, and adoption studies. The results of these studies challenge some deeply cherished ideas and theories, and support others. Of course, the effect of genes is only half the equation. The role of experience, environment, and living conditions accounts for as much, often considerably more, of the variability in psychopathology. In this book, Kerry Jang attempts not to answer questions about what is "genetic" and what is not, but about what a knowledge of the relative influence of genes versus environment means at a psychological level of analysis--to show how it changes common assumptions about classification, etiology, diagnosis, and intervention. He first offers an overview of contemporary behavioral genetics, dispels common misconceptions, responds to the criticisms that have been leveled at this new field, and describes in basic terms how genetic and environmental effects are estimated and how susceptibility genes are pinpointed. He then points to new directions in which standard nosological systems are likely to evolve as new information about vulnerabilities and covariances emerges. Finally, he synthesizes and evaluates the consistency of the last decade's findings for the most common categories of psychopathology that have been studied by behavior geneticists: mood, personality, and anxiety disorders, substance abuse; and schizophrenia and the psychotic disorders. Clinicians and researchers alike need to understand the genetic influences on the feelings and behaviors they are seeking to change or study if they are to be effective in their work. The Behavioral Genetics of Psychopathology: A Clinical Guide empowers them with this understanding. http://rapidshare.de/files/3099433/The_Behavioral_Genetics_of_Psychopathology.7z.html Password:www.Avaxhome.ru or http://rapidshare.de/files/2604704/Lawrence.Erlbaum.Associates.The.Behavioral.Genetics.of.Psychopathology.rar.html

Pain and Depression: An Antidisciplinary Patient-Centered Approach (Advances in Psychosomatic Medicine) by M. R. Clark (Editor), G. J. Treisman (Editor) S Karger Pub size: approx. 1.3 MB Pain is the most common physical complaint while depression is the second most debilitating chronic medical condition. The co-occurrence of pain and depression is well known but a detailed understanding of their phenomenology, interrelationship, and effective therapies remains speculative. This book provides a synthetic approach to the evaluation and treatment of patients with chronic pain and depression that will generate therapeutic optimism and lead clinicians to improve quality of life and restore function. The recognition that depression is not just an affective disorder or demoralization is discussed in detail in the contributions: 'Function, Disability, and Psychological Well-Being' and in 'Structural Models of Comorbidity among Common Mental Disorders: Connections to Chronic Pain'. Other articles review the complex regional pain syndrome and the Gulf War syndrome. Further papers discuss issues relating to the use of opioids in the treatment of chronic pain. This book will doubtless prove to be essential reading for researchers investigating chronic nonmalignant pain as well as physicians dealing with patients suffering from chronic pain. http://rapidshare.de/files/4979473/Pain.and.Depression.rar.html password: Zer00forebooksclub
Depressive Disorders (Wpa Series in Evidence and Experience in Psychiatry, V. 1) by Norman Sartorius (Editor), Mario Maj (Editor) 490 pages John Wiley & Sons format pdf Book Description Takes a unique and highly informative approach to key issues surrounding depressive disorders. The six systematic reviews, written by outstanding authors, focus on topics such as the choice and duration of drug treatment and the cost of depressive disorders. They are accompanied by commentaries giving advice from clinicians of different orientations and countries. Download Description From Chapter 1 "Depression, like many other mental disorders, is characterised by the presence of a number of symptoms which are changeable over time." Among these symptoms are a depressed mood and a loss of interest; physical and cognitive changes may also occur. Because of difficulties in diagnosis (and varied criteria) only estimates in the global number of cases of depression can be made. Some estimates put it in front of chronic heart disease as a health problem and cause of death. This revised edition covers developments in diagnosis, theraphy, prognosis, economic evaluation and quality improvement. Provides accompanying commentaries by an outstanding line up of contributors. Covers developments in diagnosis, therapy, prognosis, economic evaluation and quality improvement. Provides an unbiased and reliable reference point. http://rapidshare.de/files/2643175/Depressive_Disorders.rar.html password: Zer00forebooksclub

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Practical Tried-and-Tested Strategies to Overcome OCD Description As many as 1 in 30 adults and 1 in 100 children currently suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is much more common than was previously thought, with up to 2 million people being affected in the UK. Sufferers experience intrusive thoughts and anxieties resulting in compulsive behaviour that can seem bizarre to those that have no experience of the disorder. Why would someone feel compelled to touch the four walls of a room in a clockwise fashion as soon as he enters it? Why would someone look at an object 3 times with his right eye, followed by his left eye?
OCD sufferers are aware that these rituals are excessive and irrational, but they cannot control their behaviour. They are plagued by intrusive thoughts that they cannot banish from their mind and are often tormented by these thoughts which they find profoundly disgusting or upsetting. The cause of OCD is still not known, but it does appear to run in families and can occur together with other disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders and Tourette's syndrome. http://rapidshare.de/files/34273159/Obsessive.Compulsive.Disorder.Second.Edition.eBook-EEn.rar
